Reuse is the preferred option for disposal
of your computer. This allows us to wipe all data
using an approved process and redistribute the computer
to people in need. In partnership with Microsoft we
are provide the appropriate software to reinstall,
allowing people to continue to use the older computer.
In developing countries every Internet connected computer
is a communication centre and education point for
an entire community. In addition many people with
disabilities in developing countries will never be
able to access a computer in any other way. There
are an estimated 365 million deaf people in the world
who would benefit from reuse and donation of your
computer equipment. Always donate to a reuse
program in preference to recycling in regards to computers.
Recycling is the preferred option of most computer
manufacturers because it promotes the purchase of
a new computer.
Recycling
As we have established reuse
programs we will may reuse a computer multiple
times. At some point the computer reaches
the end of its useful life. At that stage all the
computer parts are stripped down and sent of
for recycling. All broken monitors are sent to a processing
and recycling plant in Victoria. We ensure that only
approved recyclers are used. In some cases there is
a government recycling fee of $20 for Broken and faulty
monitors and $5 charge for printers that are donated
without ink.
We take any computer (besides
Apple), working monitors, and other computer accessories
fee of charge. Just drop them in to your local Charity
Computers site.
